hello all, have an older hummingbird finder with a transom mount X-ducer. it still works great but am having a heck of a time finding the right spot for it on the hull. i had it mounted on a small, electric only, vessel and never had a problem. i now have just restored an older crestliner. when mounted on the transom it throws up and unwanted spray when buzzing along and floods the back. mounted on the underhull off to the side it gets knocked around, turns and is inaccurate. (who wants to hang off the side and turn it around at night while fishing?)......... can these x-ducers be mounted on the inside hull against the fiberglass facing down? i have two spots i have access to. since they read the bottom and echo back how accurate will it be if it has to pass through the fiberglass or will it not? thanks all!!! manual is long gone!

I believe the in hull transducers have gotten better over the years. You may want to check out the Humminbird website, they sell alot of the in hull pucks. Like everything else, installation of these is the key to good performance. Here is a link to their website store offering http://www.humminbird.com/retail/ca...mminbird&category_name=Puck+Transducer&Page=1 call product support and tell them what you have and what you want to do.

Oh, sorry kinda missed your exact question... No it won't give acceptable results.

Transom, in-hull, and thru-hull transducers are all different and designed for each service, that's why they sell different types.

Often, you can shoot through your hull fine. As an experiment, fill your bilge with water nad see how the transducer performs shooting through the hull vs lowering the transducer over the side of the boat.

In the past, I have epoxied a fiberglass box inside the bilge of my boat and mounted my transducer in the top of it. The box is filled with water. This method worked quite well. Yours may or may not depending on the type oh hull you have.

There are several posts that descibe how to find out the postiion for a in-hull transducer. The best way to answer your question is to try of these methods, and then you'll know what to expect. I have an inhull installation that produces results as good as my trolling motor mount transducer.
