Hello All,

In the next 4-6 months I will be moving from Tucson, AZ to Lexington, SC. This will put me right next to Lake Murray. I will be bringing my 18' Cobalt 18TH with me and look forward to taking it out on the lake.

The reason for my post is for others in the area to share with me their experiences and advice about the lake. I know it is huge so hopefully there are many around to share info.

Thanks for posting!

Re: Moving to Lexington, SC

Welcome to SC. I am from the West Columbia area, which is right next door to Lexington. You will love it. Lexington is a beautiful area and boasts decent schools and best of all, it's right at Lake Murray, like you mentioned.

I do 95% of my boating on Murray. It is generally a nice lake, but can be crowded at times. The big water can be quite choppy on a windy day. Sometimes it is almost too much for an 18 footer, but there are tons of fingers and coves that offer calmer waters.

If you are into fishing, then Lake Murray will please you in that dept as well. It has decent largemouth bass, crappie, brim, striper, and catfish.

There are some areas of the lake that present some hazards, such as rocks, sandbars, and shallows, but the CG Aux volunteers do a pretty good job of marking them. Get yourself a chart nonetheless.

There are many marinas around the area. At least three or four of them have bars / restaurants at them and sometimes have live bands on the weekends, if that is your thing.

Please feel free to look me up when you get here and I would be happy to give you a nickel tour of the lake. I'll send a PM with my contact info.

Thanks for the info and invite Beaufort! It sounds like an amazing place and I cant wait to get there. Ive lived in the desert my whole life and need a change of pace. I have family in SC who want me there with them so it should work out beautifully I believe.
