Re: Mp3 player questions

My 2 nephews and me, all have the full size ipods.
2 friends have the ipod Nano.
Easy to use, lots of accessories available.
Plus you get the iTunes software.

2 gig Nano is $149. Even less when bundled with accessories from retailers like MacMall. I think Target even had an instore bundle deal last week.

Re: Mp3 player questions

I have a 2gb sansa mp3 player......I like it because I dont need any software to change the files to the apple format to be used on ipods....I just open up my hard drive that I store my mp,3s on and copy and paste...You can also use media player 10 with it.

A computer guy at work who has the same model as I do was telling me something along the lines of the 2gb sansa model has a chip or something...The larger gb ipods have an actual hard drive inside(which is a moving part)....So I can go running, or work out with it in my pocket without any concerns of problems...

I wish I new exactly what he was talking about, but maybe a more savy computer person can help explain it.

My sansa model also has a port where I can plug in another chip to hold more music.

Paid 120 at circuit city.....

There is no such thing. Ipods play MP3s the same as anything else. Spending a few hundred bucks on anything but an ipod is a huge mistake. There is nothing with more support and more accessories, and that didn't happen by accident. It's been around longer than any other currently marketed MP3 player and will continue to be the biggest player on the market for many years to come.

There are literally thousands of accessories made by thousands of different manufacturers for the ipod. With any other manufacturer you are usually only limited to the few accessories they make...if they make any.

I looked at the ipods.as you said, there are tons of accessories for them. Not real important to me, They seem way overpriced for what they have and do. I can get a samsung yp-t9jab for just over 150 bucks. 4 gigs, color, plays games, 30 hour battery life, and plays movies.

The question is, do you want a Daewoo or a BMW?

IMO and experience, since MP3 players are basically a chip and an LCD screen, there is not a great deal of sound difference between a $45 and a $145 player. It is a huge markup on these. Since MP3 players and iPods are very popular and people are willing to shell out the $$$$, so why not charge it.

IMO, look for a stylish model with comfortable buttons, readable LCD screen and SD card storage. I have seen many very nice looking models for way under $100. I had recently purchased a 2Gb SD card for $27 after rebate.

Good luck.

I disagree 100% with Zmoz. I absolutely abhor ipods. For the price you pay for one, they shouldnt have to be serviced and sent back as much as they are. Every person I know has had to have it replaced or repaired at some point. I see at least 10 ipods a week at my store that need to go out to be serviced. It is absolutely ridiculous. Yeah they have lots of accesories out there, but other makers are catching up. With a simple y-adapter you can play any MP3 player on anything with stereo inputs. Almost every different player I have seen has a nice case available for it.

I don't buy into the Apple hype. If I were buying I would more than likely buy a Microsoft Zune.......Which so far has gotten great reviews, though it is only been out a month or so.

That's the same as a Ford mechanic saying "I have to fix Fords every day, they must be crap". Of course you see a lot of broken ones there, that's where people take them when they're broken. You also sell thousands of them there. Why do people keep buying them if they're so crappy? They aren't just slightly ahead of the others - they are the absolute king of the MP3 player market, bar none. Why did that happen if they suck so much?

And, BTW, I have three ipods, my mom has two, my dad has one, my GF has one, my friend has one, my other friend has one, another friend has one...not one is broken, but all are terribly abused. Even if they do break it's not a big deal, they come with a warranty. All you have to do is call apple and they send you box the next day with a pre printed shipping label.

The bottom line is, percentage wise, no more ipods break than any other MP3 player. There may be a few more broken ipods around simply because there are more ipods in existance.

That would be true if we only serviced ipods. We sell so many because so many people are willing to buy based off of name recognition. So sure we sell a lot more of them, but we almost never service anything else.........and we do sell a lot of the other ones as well. More than you probably think BTW.

You mean because of the name Apple? Many, many, many people seriously despise Apple, myself included. That's why they're at the bottom of the computer market. The name Apple isn't what shot them to the top, technology and innovation did.

My wife has had her Ipod for 4 years (I think) and it has never had to be serviced for anything. Works as good as day one.
I just got one this year.
We have had other Mp3 players and they played music. It is the other things that you can do with the Ipod that make the difference to me.
Playlists, Play just one album, Play just one artist, etc.

Re: Mp3 player questions

Alot depends on what you're going to use it for. If you're going to be jostling it around alot, the larger ipods have hard drives that don't like to be jostled, but the smaller ones (nano's) don't. They make a GREAT running companion. I would only go with ipod for the reasons ZM stated. It is true that ipods play MP3 files, but they have to be converted first. When you download a song on itunes, it's in the "converted" format and it won't play on any other MP3 player without converting it back to an MP3 format. That can be a PITA if you have other players like a phone or PDA. The new Nano's are sweet, lighter, slimmer, and twice the battery life. And up to 8 gigs now I think.
