Mud Bars Suck

Well long story short I sold the jet boat to get something bigger.
I have never ran an I/O before and forgot that i had this big thing hanging from the bottom of the boat. We got stuck pretty good had to be pulled off, good thing it was at night and we were going slow. After we got pulled off I ideled it back to dock and tied up for the night. In the morning took her out and got the temp up to 240 and shut her down,got towed in and pulled the boat. I know i need to replace the pump in the out drive ( alpha 1) but i just had a question. Running the motor on the muffs. Doesn't this force water into the drive making it impossible to tell if the pump and impeller are shot?

Sounds like you sucked some mud into your water intake vents on the sides of the Alpha 1, were you able to flush out your raw water cooling system from the Alpha drive?? Just trying to show the hose connections for the raw water flow direction going into the cooling system

Do you have a V-6 or v-8? raw water system or coolant and raw water systym??

Merc 350 v8 Don't think its a coolant system how do we tell ?
1987 chaperall 235 xlc is the boat

You would have a resevoir where you add anti freeze....​

I would un-hook all water pump hose`s going to thermostat housing and back flush with a Garden hose, Then install a new impeller kit.

Don't forget to make sure your Alpha 1 has water flowing through it like he said.and use muffs to make sure you have water coming out the gimbal housing, you will need some one to help you to let you know, if not(10sec.) shut her down and flush it out before you go out. you don't want to get out there and find out the impeller on the Alpha is burned up, or clogged.

Yea i have the pump kit it is all getting replaced just to be on the safe side.
But now you have me confused ( keep in mind I had a jet boat ) i thought the water came out the prop hub like on an outboard ?

I have a 91 Alpha 1, and thats where it comes out on mine with muffs, have you run before it on muffs and see where it comes out at??

Yep, you may have debris in the lines, also.

Should it only come out of one location (i.e. the prop hub OR the gimbal housing)? Or, is it a combination of the two. It is always hard for me to tell where the water is coming out due to the overspray of the water in the muffs.

The only thing I have coming out MY prop is exhaust, If water came out of the exhaust then some thing would be wrong with MY set up. Cracked or rusted through manifold or risers would be my first guess. His might be set up diff.
