I've got the old 74 TW running like a champ, thanks for the help to the forums.. now the only thing I'd like to do is decrease the noise from the exhaust. The exhaust port (2) 1/4" holes are well above the water line. there is a little protrusion just above these. It looks like something I could easily use to mount some 2" conduit to, in order to pipe the exhaust into the water like other out boards. Should make it much quieter I think.. Any ideas comments, concerns?? Don't want to blow her up now that she's smooth sailing

<____now the only thing I'd like to do is decrease the noise from the exhaust. The exhaust port (2) 1/4" holes are well above the water line.>

Those 2 little holes are 'exhaust relief' holes and serve to relieve excess back pressure at idle which would choke off the engine. The main exhaust outlet is the big hole underneath the trailing edge of the anti-cavitation plate and exhausting underwater at low speeds causes too much back pressure---thus the 'exhaust relief' holes which serve the secondary function of tell-tales to demonstrate that the waterpump is working.

That "little protrusion" serves as an integral part of the latch that prevents the motor from trying to kick up out of the water in reverse. Mess with it at your own hazard.

If you have it running good just use it and enjoy it. It is working as it should and if it's too loud for you----well, foam earplugs are a lot cheaper than quieter major brand motors.

If that is an Eska built motor The exhaust is in the leg. There is a row of relief holes
water should mist out of. I don't recall 2 little relief holes,I wonder if someone drilled them?
If the exshaust isn't water cooled you can't run it under water it will over heat.
