Muffs don't work

I can't seem to get any water through my engine with muffs on. It's a 90 model Force 50hp. I take it to the lake and it pumps great, but nothing with the muffs. I have the square kind and they seem to fit well. I do see that the water inlet goes up, so it makes sense gravity keeps the water from being sucked up. Any tips/tricks?

Chris

Make sure the hose side of the muffs is on the side where water is allowed in. Some lower units have holes on each side, but only one side goes up to the motor (I read that on here a while ago). Your motor should have openings on each side of the lower unit, turn the hose up more, maybe your hose wasn't on enough.

There's been quite a few posts on......... cutting up a barrel to fit under the motor and use instead. Much quieter and better for the motor flush too. Worth a shot! Good Luck!

Agree with Luna. I think muffs are overrated, because they frequently don't supply enough water to adequately cool the motor. If you plan to run the motor for any length of time, I would just put a trash can under it and fill it up over the level of the water intake.
