Re: muffs

no..if your water pump/impeller is working right it should pump water up through all the cooling system passageways so you powerhead is being cooled....you should have water coming out the exhaust holes in back..if not dont run it until you change water pump/impeller

Re: muffs

Hard to get water muffs to work on chryslers unless they are original chrysler muffs. Best bet is a water tank however that might be tough with the size motor you have.

Re: muffs

Try using merc high performance lower unit oil. It seems a bit thicker then other brands I have tried. A 30 year old motor will start developing wear spots. Most common are on the drive shaft where the drive shaft seal is and the same for the prop shaft seal. Constant spinning with the seal creates a wear spot and then the seal does not work as well. You may still have old oil however I dont see how if you replaced all the seals. Removing the bearing cage to replace the prop seal will drain all the oil out. If oil is a little milky and no water comes out just keep an eye on it and keep draining and adding more oil. If water is not coming out the telltale those muffs could fry your motor. Chryslers typically draw water to the water pump under the cavitation plate and not on the sides like other outboards and that is why muffs dont usually work. If water did not go through the water pump and motor ran for more then 20 or 30 seconds the new impeller is probably fried.
