OK...so I get me new kicker bracket mounted up, put the kicker on it. While I'm tightening it down I'm thinking about getting out next weekend for some Blackmouth before you guys get them all.

BUT...here comes good 'ole Murphy...

My kicker ('89 merc. 9.9) is a long shaft. the cav. plate is even with the waterline. I need an Extra-long shaft.

I used the exisiting holes to mount the bracket...it should have worked! I called West Marine, they would be glad to charge me another $350 for another bracket but since I mounted mine and it has been more than 30 days they will not take mine in return.

Now I could remove the bracket and lower it but I'd have to lower it by at least 4". That would put it only 2" above the waterline. To me...that's too close, even if I do seal it with 4200 (5200, whatever).

I'm open to suggestions here guys. Maybe trade for an EXLS motor, locate a custome FIXED bracket (or get one made) and sell the other on here, CL, or eBay. Convert mine to an EXLS even.

Anyone have any CONSTRUCTIVE suggestions?

Thanks,
Terry B.

Re: Murphy Strikes Again!

1. make a custom aluminum bracket
2. lengthen the motor's shaft to XL

Neither solution will cost you $350.

Re: Murphy Strikes Again!

Lower and seal with 4200 (removable with heat) (5200 is permanent)

remember O/B's are sealed with 4200 below the water line and are fine.

Re: Murphy Strikes Again!

Go buy the other one at West Marine.
Return the old one using the new receipt.
