Murr 400 on side of outboard

I was given a 1960's runabout yesterday with an outboard on it that has Murr 400 on the side of the motor. I could not find a plate with serial #. Those anyone know what company this is?

Can you possibly supply a photo, showing the logo? Does it look like a factory logo, rather than handpainted?

I have an idea that might pan out, but a photo would help.

I took a look in the boats glove box and found that the original owner name was Murray. Makes a lot of since now, he must Must have put that on his self because it's actually a merc 400.

There ya go! My theory was pretty complicated and would require some serious research, so I'm glad you solved the problem.
