Music...

I want a radio/CD player in my boat. However, I don't want to install a head-unit and speakers. Is there a boom-box kind of thing I could use that somehow gets wired into the boat's power supply?

u could use a battery/mains powered thing and use a small 150 watt inverter to run it.. its what i do with things that dont have a 12 volt input..<br /><br />and to be really honest i didnt wanna drill lots of holes and fit yards of wiring in my boat.. but i couldnt think of any other way of obtaining decent sounds.. he he<br /><br />installing it all was pain but the end result was worth it..<br /><br />trog

Plenty of boomboxes that run 8 x 'D' size batteries, they are connected in series.<br />1 x 'D' is 1.5volt, 8 x 'D's equals 12 volt. It's a simple matter of removing the batts and connecting your pos and neg wires. I've done it, it works. You will need the circuit fused.<br /><br />Aldo

What is wrong with a reasonably high power stereo that is self contained other than a 12 volt plug sticking out of it? Couldn't you simply plug that into a 12 volt socket? I am thinking about something similar so that I will have it on any boat I own. A sub-woofer, decent mid-range and tweeters, power-amp and CD player/receiver.<br /><br />My current boat has a 1000 watt stereo that I would never have bought. I bought the boat used and it was already there. Two 12 inch sub-woofers and 12 assorted speakers throughout. I absolutely LOVE it. I can play it at 50 MPH and hear it (I don't do this very often, but I can and it still sounds good, no distortion). I can play it on the beach and others REALLY seem to enjoy it. It is the most often mentioned, positive feature about my boat by friends, and this otherwise is a very nice boat. We're in our mid to late 40s so this is no hip-hop, boom boom thing. We just love great sound!!!!

i dont forget the CD player with MP3 abilities.. <br /><br />just as an alternative music idea.. my son fitted a 400 watt stereo amp feeding two 6x9 threeway car speakes in each side of his anchor locker..<br /><br />he just plugs his little one gig flash memory type MP3 player into it instead of headphones via a flylead coming out of the amp..<br /><br />the amp and speakers cost about £65 and sound very good it turns his little boat into a big speaker enclosure or a mobile boom-box.. he he..<br /><br />if u really wanted to go to town another (cheapo)400 watt amp feeding a seperate sub-woofer would really lift the roof off..<br /><br />the MP3 player provides 20 hours of good quality music all on a little thing that fits in your shirt pocket and also acts like a remote control for track selection and volume control.. in fact u could get several of em in your shirt pocket.. plus u can use it as intended.. plug headphones into it..<br /><br />or u could use the Hardrive type of player which would hold far more tunes but cost a little more..<br /><br />simple idea but it works very well..<br /><br />trog
