no doubt - I do know that bigmouth bass will eat any living thing they can get their mouths around. Lure doesn't necessarily have to look like something real, long as you can convince 'em it's alive. I've never tried one, but you can buy mouse-imitation lures. mebbe you could just put a big ol treble hook on rubber ducky?

I have actually witnesssed a Northern Pike vs Duck battle.

The duck eventually lost but it took a good minute or two. Felt sorry for the duck.

There is a recorded incident in England were a
small dog was taken by a large pike some years
back in a local lake. The Pike had even been
named by the locals. I have the article some were
at home in my ever expanding OutDoor Canada magazines.

Re: musky eats duck

I saw a giant bass in my favorite pond many years ago that ate squirrels.

I was sitting on the dock drowning some night crawlers when I heard a mighty splash. I looked around and saw a commotion in the water under an overhanging oak limb.

A little while later I saw a squirrel working its way out the same limb. It reached the end where it found a fat acorn and sat up to eat it.

All of a sudden. . .SPLASH!!! . . . a giant bass leapt out of the water, grabbed the squirrel and disappeared back into the dark depths.

Well, I was startled out of my gourd, but not so startled that I forgot what I was there for, so I dropped my gob of night crawlers right under that limb and sat down to wait.

Soon I saw the great micropterus cruising up to the spot, so I got ready for the great moment.

The fish ignored my crawlers and pushed another acorn onto the limb.

It's the absolute truth, I tell you!! I swear it in the name of Jimmy Houston!! :)

I think gonfishn is leaving the rubber duck at home this trip. He said he is only taking forty of his lures with him because of the load requirement on his boat.

This act is gonna be repeated by GF, even I have commited to throwing THE DUCK a couple of times. Maybe the fishing gods will get laufgh out of it and reward me with an elusive muskie...It's worth a shot.

You know, Come to think of it, that lake I was on last week was loaded with big pike, I never saw one duck on the place!!! I think GF is on to something here.

I for one want to see a picture of the mighty duck inside a big ole 50 incher musky's mouth with GF holding him up for the camera. What a picture that would be!!!

GO ducky, Go ducky, Go ducky!!

The funny thing is the ducky lure he posted looked more like the rubber ducky that Ernie sang about on Sesame Street. Guess if it quacks like a duck then it is a duck. rubber duck thread

When I was a kid (early 70's) The old timers on the lake in central Ontario, would tape a large hook on a chipmunk, and let them swim around for muskie bait.I guess it worked. Good thing peta wasn't around then.

Jim

:D JB You're killing me! :D

Rented a video from blockbuster maybe 7 or 8 years ago about the life cycle of largemouth bass, narrated by Rod Serling (picture, if you will...) that included actual footage of a bass taking a young duckling. If I can find it I'll follow up with details.

might have been on the Doug Hannon video. But I'm sure I remember it.

Was an article in the paper, maybe 10 or more years ago that a minature poodle was swimming in a lake in western Wisc. when it was take by a fish(presumably a Muskie as that is what the article said).
I have also seen the disappearing duck trick on a trip to Canada.

I have also heard the Muskie taking a dog off a dock. No sure where, but must have been a big, mean fish. I'm not a dog guy anyways!!
D

I always thought a Lunker-Lure imitated a small duckling splashing on top of the water. It works down here in SC.
