i was just checking out some outboards at internetoutboards via a link fromsome thread here and noticed at the bottom of the description that the motor(50tldi) must be installedby an authorised dealer and would only be shipped to such. does this mean that i cannot buy and install a motor myself, or that the warranty will not be valid or both? do other manufactures have the same policy on mid range (and up) remote motors? is this just for remotes or tiller motors also? appreciate all coments. happy boating.

Re: must be installed by dealer?

That's pretty much standard policy across the board. Manufacturers offer warranties on their outboards, so they insist on them being installed properly by a dealer.

You can always buy a used motor. Nobody will insist on anything.
