Hello,

I am a new boater and own an 1985 Bayliner Capri 19' with a 125 Force outboard. I thought maybe someone could help me with my issue I am having with the onboard internal 28 gallon gas tank. When I have the gas line hooked up to the internal tank after a few mins it cuts out if I dont keep the primer bulb pumped. However when I hook the fuel line up to my lil external 6 gallon tank, It runs fine. Any advise as to what might be wrong with my internal gas tank?

Main tank may not be venting. When motor dies on main tank does the primer bulb go flat or just not stay hard? Is the hose going to the main tank considerably longer then the one to the small tank? Might try replacing the hose and primer bulb to the main tank. If hose to that tank is longer it might be time to rebuild the fuel pump. This is cheap and easy to do usually under 10 dollars.

Right! the primer bulb would go flat sometimes, like it was suffocating right before it cut out using the same hose, and just swicthing it to the other tank so the hose is the same one. How do should I go about venting the gas tank if that's the problem?

I have never had an inboard tank before but because nobody else jumped on this question I will give it a shot. There must be a fill cap like on a car that you open to insert the gas. Try running with this cap off or loose. If problem goes away maybe a new gas cap will work. If not maybe there is a fuel filter that is clogged on it or the next step would be to start taking the tank apart and cleaning or replacing

Straight out of my bayliner manual (1989)

Boats are equipped with an antisiphon valve. This valve is an integral part of the barb fitting on the fuel tank to which the neoprene fuel line attaches. The valve is spring loaded and is opened by fuel pump pressure. These valves will prevent gasoline from siphoning from the fuel tank in the event of a fuel line rupture.

NOTE: if an engine running problem is diagnosed as fuel starvation, the antisiphon valve should be checked. In the event the valve is stuck or clogged it should be cleaned or replaced while the engine is shut down. Under no circumstances should it be removed exept in an emergency.

It also mentions that there s a fine mesh screen filter on the fuel pick up tube inside the tank that may be clogged.

it doesn't say how to get at that tube though, and I haven't looked at my inboard tank yet but I would check those 2 things.

Its weird though, it does it out of no where sometimes I can run 5mins wide open and other times it wil cut off after a min running wide open or start to bog on and off when it starts starving itself of fuel. I did unkink the air vent house that seemed to make it run longer after but its still cuts out.

Venomystic96,
I was having the same problem as you, except mine did it with the Portable Gas tank also. what seems to have fixed mine was replacing the Fuel Pump Diaphragm. I also had replaced this Valve, it bolts directly into the Top of the Fuel Tank, where the quick Connect Fitting attaches. You might want to check both these fittings, as I noticed some build up and dirt in mine. Now mine doesn't seem to be cutting out at WOT, like it would. I could cut the throttle back some and then it was fine, but running WOT for more than a minute or two, seemed to run it short on gas and then it would bog down.

I also just purchased the Teleflex Water Pressure kit, it does include a bunch of Fittings and it comes with the Hose to run up to the Gauge in the dash. The only thing it did not come with that is needed is the Wiring. All you need to do is Hook up a + and - to get the Light to work.

I did not hook up the power to it yet, but my gauge is not working for some reason. Have not yet had time to mess with it to find out why. i was gonna take the hose off and hook my Air Compressor up to it and send about 20psi through it to see if it would read or not. I might have just gotten a bad gauge.

Thanks,
Bryan

Thanks, I'll have to check that out, Cause my issue is similar and I have to back off a little from full trottle otherwise it loses power a little also. I'm gonna try sine se foam and clean the carbs out first. Should my 19' bayliner capri cuddy go faster than 35 MPH with my force 125? It takes her a little while to plain out, wish it would get out of the water a liil better so I can pull a skier better. Does 35 MPH sound right for my boat for top crusing speed full throttle?

Re: My 125 Force Fuel Cutting Out

I have a Turning Point Hustler Prop 17 Pitch on mine, I got it and the hub for about $100 or less. This made a world of Difference on my hole shot. Looking at your prop picture, I would recommend this one.

I then put the Boyesen Reeds in my outboard and that really brought it to life.

I am not able to get my RPMS back up, I used to have them up at 5000 now I am down at about 4300, but I still can run 40mph. This is a 19' bayliner also. This is also with my Wife, baby and 9 Year old on the boat. My tool box and cooler. So it seems to still run strong, just really want to get the RPMS back up to 5k if I can.

Hope this helps

Bryan
