My 1967 3hp Evinrude "rattles" too much when I open up the throttle

Like the thread says, my motor has a really annoying rattle from the hood/starter area. The engine itself runs perfect and I am pretty sure it is coming from the hood/starter area and I only hear it when I open it up. It almost sounds like the hood is lose but I took it off and re-assembled it without any luck. When I slow the engine down the rattles go away.

I have tried to hold areas of the hood when I hear the noise but I can?t seem to find it. This is the first 3hp I have owned so maybe this is common with the Al. hood design.

Does anyone have any insight as to where this annoying rattle is coming from and how to fix it?

Probably the rope pulley in the recoil starter. The original handle had a long rubber extension snout that went back in and jammed into the pulley when recoiled. That took the movement out of the pulley an prevented the rattle.

To verify, remove the recoil starter and rope start it to see if the noise is gone. Good luck finding the correct handle.

EDIT: Here ya go, I found it for you:

I used to get the occasional vibration noise from those old 3s when the timing lever would vibrate against the gas tank rim. I pulled the tank off and bent the lever just a hair to take the vibration away...
