My 1970 20 hp Chrysler got HOT

I bought a 20hp 1970 Chrysler put it on my boat a Fiberglass LUND Tri-hull. i forgot to check transom match up! Well it had lots of Cavitation issues & in the process it got hot! Is that due to the cavitation problem? The impellar seemed to be working. After the motor cooled down i checked compression & it was about 120in both cylinders is that good? is there anything else to be concerned about because it got hot?

As long as the compression is OK, you're probably fine. Was the motor mounted too high up? If so, the water pick up in the lower leg may not have been submerged enough to get a good supply of water, thus causing a cooling problem.
