I got this boat from my wife’s late uncle. We thought it would be fun to restore his old fishing boat. So far I have been working on polishing and cleaning it up. It has heavy oxidation all over but it has been buffing out pretty good I think for a 30+ year old boat. I have had to replace some switches and work on some electrical stuff but nothing major to this point. I have started the engine and all seems well just need to do the regular maintenance on everything. I hope by next weekend it will be ready for a test run at the lake.
GO DAWGS!!

service the outdrive, check the gimbal bearing and bellows for cracks, and hole. or you will sink.

I have essentially the same boat but mine is an outboard version. I run it with a relatively small engine - a 1972 Johnson 65hp, which pushes the boat at 28 mph according to my GPS.

Your boat has, I believe, the 165hp Mercruiser. With that much horsepower you should "fly!" Even when you don't want to go fast, you can throttle it back and still make good speed and decent fuel economy at the same time.

If you get waves of any size where you go boating, one trick with this boat is to throttle back when it is rough and then use low speed and/or trim to get the bow up in the air. As long as you are not heading directly into the wind, you will stay pretty dry this way.

Have fun with it!

It has the mer 140 in it. I am sure it will have enough power for me. I have seen others with the 165 L6. I finally got done this weekend with the cleanup. Had to adjust the windshield so it would close. I need to replace the bilge pump and do some basic electrical repairs. I am looking forward to getting it in the water. A buddy of mine is going out with me in his new Rhino center console so if any thing goes wrong he can give me a tow. That would suck so I am spending a lot of extra time and effort to make sure that doesn?t happen.
