My 1992 Gastron 1900 Resotoration....Here we go again!

Well IBoats friends, I have come to realize that this boat restoration stuff is a disease!!! I think it starts by your first itching session after grinding glass!!!!

I couldnt help myself any longer... we needed something bigger than the GT. Kids getting bigger by the day.

I came across this 92' Glastron 1900, asked WoG to go take a peak at it, since it was 30 minutes from his place. The deal has worked out and I will go down next weekend to pick it up. For sure needs a floor, llikely stringers outdrive cylinders and the normal cosmetics. We shall see once the floor is up.

Congrats on the new project. I'm sure you will over-build, over-engineer and over-spend (your budget)...following along with your permission?

It's a nice looking hull. Worth fixing up. Definitely a "sofa boat" though as one of our members used to refer to most bowriders as. Awful lot of upholstery in that thing!

Definitely Baja, Im sure your right about over-doing it!!

EZ, yes, but the structure is first....Upholstery is the easy part!! I like that term.. Sofa boat! Not quite a pontoon, but the cushions are nice to have!!

Both...they hit a pole backing into a ramp. repair was completed, but not painted...

Nice looking hull Cor. What motor is in it? I had a 185 sea ray that was very similar. Great boat for 5 or 6 people. Looking forward to the build!

Arch, it has the 4.3L. This will serve the family much better than the GT. Like the "Family Truckster from Lampoons Vacation, but a bit better looking!!!

that is what my Sea Ray had Cor, it actually ran really well. Wasn't bad on fuel either. That is sort of what I have Fuggly for, minivan on the water to haul people around!

Well, she followed me home today....



I initially thought the blue stripes were stickers, but i picked at the transition line and its gel. So the interior will stay blue and white. I will buff a spot to see shade of blue.




I think this is kind of cool... the original owners manual!! I am the 3rd owner. the last guy had it 6 years, and the Original bought it new in 92.



Now I get to start working up a plan of attack!!!

Thanks all, tried a bit of polishing compound, 5 minutes on the wheel did wonders!!! Also needed the admiral to see what it should look like, so she can start sorting out interior color scheme.

Strap holding the outdrive up has been officially removed. Replaced the cylinders due to one having a cracked housing. Pretty straight forward job...standard screw driver, 3/8th wrench some marine grease and 3 qts of dexron 2. Used 2.5, flushing and bleeding.







Question for you... the old cylinders didnt have anodes on them.should they?

One item ticked off the list 40000 to go!

Pretty sure you don't need anodes on a FreshWater boat but....I'm just an Old Dumb Okie soooooo. You might wanna wait for others to chime in!!! You're on your way now!!!!

I know where I keep my boat on lake Erie everyone has anodes and they need replacing almost every year but these are moored boats.

Thanks Minch, I took the "here we go again" from you...as we went through the first round of this addiction at the same time!!

I will admit, very shortly after, (and if Im being honest, shortly before) the splash on the GT....I started getting itchy about having nothing to do!!!

Im hoping that this wont be as in-depth as the GT, but Im trying to be a realist as well.
