My 200 94 merc poppet valves where are they????

I have a 94 mercury with 200 hP. replace the thermostats & impeller want to check the poppets valves. I see a little cover on the starboard and port side with two phillips screws. Take the cover off an there seems to be two 10mm bolts holding something in? Are these the poppet valves. I am running boarderline warm and want to run 40 miles offshore of FLorida. Have seloc manual. Thanks great site enjoy reading the post. <br />Tim

Follow the water outlet fitting top center of engine down to down lower starboard side. Hose attaches to center of poppet valve. To get to the poppet valve you will need to remove the lower cowling |Why do you think its running hot? My engine is 200hp 1994 as well carb only no EFI. Runs great just a little smoky on the initial startup.<br /><br />RFish

well just got it and want to make sure everything is checked. It was running hot then changed the impeller and stats. now it's borderline under wot and only getting 4400 rpms bad. the prop is 21 pitch. i think thats big. boat weighs only around 2800 lbs. I may pull the heads. thanks.

If this engine is the same as mine you should be getting 5600rpm at WOT.<br /><br />What are the specs on the boat? length etc.<br /><br />RFish<br /><br />
