hi all. i'd just like to re intro myself here. i'm dan and i use to be a member here. i used to post here and there a couple years ago but i lost my log in account and my outboard repair skills just got better.
well, now i need some help again.
3 weeks ago, i was running up the CT river. i had adjusted my carb screw and the engine was running better than ever. i got about a mile up river and the engine was running strong and accelerating well. suddenly i get a loud bang and i think "great, i just threw a rod". well, i shut the engine off and open the cowling and what do you know, my top spark plug just got knocked out from compression. well, the top cylinders threads have been going down hill since last year, and they finally failed. they were so bad i could put the plug 3/4 of the way back in without screwing it!.
so i took the head off and i had a friend of mine do a helicoil for me (free too
) and i just got it back today. i had everything disconnected carefully when i took the engine apart 3 weeks ago, and today, everything went well. heads back on, engines got good compression and all that. but now, the problems have piled up!
firstly, theres no spark! i can't figure out why, but i'm just not getting anything. played around with the wiring and still nothing. but heres the weird part. i got maybe 2 or 3 short sparks on both cylinders (each at seperate times, but never both working) and then nothing for the rest of the night.
my thoughts are that the CDI box got cooked when the plug was thrown out and all those volts had no where to go.
so any insight on the situation? thanks!
p.s. - this is a 1982 35 horse. long shaft. tiller but its been converted to electric start
