just a little fishing boat I picked up or rescued depending on how you look at. It needs work to say the least. Note the drywall screws through the side to hold the middle seat in. I have now gutted it since these pics.

Re: my 50 dollar find

I have gutted it and will fix the holes where is has been patches properly. Got the transom cut and ready to put in as well as the seat pieces. I am leaving the underneath of the bow seat open to throw anchors and the like in there. After all the repairs paint and it should be ready to do. I have gutted it so will post pics of that when I get home from work.

well got a bit of work done with still quite a bit more to so. Got it gutted and the bottom mostly ground out and the transom in. My buddy Marty helped with the transom. He is the glass man I am mostly slave labor.

Re: my 50 dollar find

Looking like some progress is being made. I hope you intend to bolt that plywood to the transom. I see the glass sticking up but that will not stick (permanently)....... how thick is the transom? Usually 2 pieces of 3/4 is about the standard to hold a small outboard.

You might even want to consider corner braces since there is no knee bracing.

Here is a picture of one of my Starcraft boats..... see the knee brace, corner pieces and bolts.

Re: my 50 dollar find

there are corner braces to go in and knees already cut, but not in yet. there is also an aluminum plate that goes on it. The transom is two pieces laminated together. The glass you see sticking up is the glass between the two pieces. This boat is not big enough, but last boat I built handled a 40 hp pulling a skier. It will be solid once done.

That looks like a prime candidate for an OMC 9.9 hp Freddy...might be too swift with a 15 or 18 hp.

I've got a 53 6hp Wizard, a 1952 7.5 Fleetwin, a 1949 3.3 Sportsman, a 1946 TD 20, a 57 Fisherman. and a 64 3.9 Merc. No shortage of motors to run on it.

Sounds like you've got it covered...nice range of choices there. Of course, when you're done we expect to pix of all the motors pushing that boat...one at a time that is. I bet your Wizard will keep pace with the Fleetwin and Fisherman.

it should outrun both. I got a pretty three blade brass prop for it.

Re: my 50 dollar find

got a lot more work done and will post some pics later when I get home. Got the entire floor of the boat reglassed. glassed in the knees on the transom and glassed in the seats. flipped it and ground out all the bondo patches on the outside down to cloth. properly patched all the spots. I need now to sand and paint. Since this has been used most recently as a pond boat here in Missouri there is no title. I will need to take it and have it inspected Saturday by the water patrol and then I can get a registration for it and have it on the water. Pics to follow.

Re: my 50 dollar find

I've got my eyes open for a similar find, with the same intended purpose...something smaller for my smaller antiques already acquired and those yet to come. Can't wait to see your Wizard pushing that craft. I've got a Merc Mark 7 waiting for such a boat...took me a year of part-time tinkering, parts searching, to get it going again...rescued from a metal recycler. Hope to put it on a canoe next week and go for a spin down in central Tejas. Are you gonna repaint the boat or leave it as is?
