HI Guys, Been Lurking for several years. Figure it's time to post my boat, as i finally have it home.

Backstory:
My Grandfather bought the boat new in 1973, it was used by him and my Uncle a few times each year, mainly on Lake Havasu.|
I grew up in this boat, all the way back to my earliest memories.

In '96 when i graduated High School, and joined the Navy, i made a deal with my Grandfather. I wrote him a check for $700 (which he never cashed :p), he would continue to store it for me, and my uncle would continue to use/maintain it, until such time as i was ready to take full ownership.

Fast forward to 2002, my uncle died of cancer, 2 weeks before i was set to transfer to Minnesota for Shore Duty.
I wanted to take it with, but couldn't justify the expense, as gas had just hit $1.30/gallon, and i would have to tow it all the way back to California after my 3 year rotation was up. So i left it behind, not counting on the fact i would still be here 14 years later. :(

well, here it is 2016.
Last month, i had a business trip to Vegas, so I took advantage of the "Low" gas prices, and finally have it home.

It has not seen the water since Sep of '00, which was the last river run my uncle and i made before he was diagnosed.
it's a bit faded, full of sand, and interior is pretty tough after sitting uncovered in the Desert sun for so many years, but all in all it's in better shape than many i have seen over the years....

Still original paint, just needs a bath

And Finally Home!!!

Over the years, family members kept telling me, "just scrap it", or "it's not worth dragging it all the way across the country, can just buy another one"....
They've got their fancy new boats, but this boat has History, and to me that is Priceless.

Well, i've got it bundled up and tucked away on a buddies farm for the winter...
Come spring, i'll drag it back home and get it cleaned up.

If i can bring the motor back to life, after sitting for 16 years, I'll run it as is

Maybe post some pics in the spring when you clean her up.

I'm redoing a Chrysler 105 but also need another motor (block cracked) so I got a ways to go

Congrats on getting the boat home! Quite an interesting background story.

Some good info here on reviving an older motor. I'm using the process myself on my Kingfisher project.

Welcome to the Starmada there Brak! :welcome: ...I guess you've technically been a member LOOOONG before most of us here :) Such a great backstory...I'd be hesitant to do anything to it aside from replacing all of the wood, adding reinforcements where needed (like outer chine bracing) & breathing some new life into that motor.

Clean her up & polish it...seems to still have a nice shine to her :thumb:

Thanks, it got compliments everywhere i stopped, on the way back to minnesota...
Several people said "you're taking a boat to Minnesota??? OH! Ice Fishing!!!" :p

i have no plans for modifications, other than touching up the paint here and there, i'd like to clean it up and run it as is.
Although, the one thing it has always lacked was tunes... easy fix.

Luckily the boat spent it's life in the high desert (low humidity, very little precipitation), so the consoles are still solid, and the floor doesn't feel too soft or spongey.
will definitely pull up the floor at some point, but its not high on my list right now...

That being said, whats the best place to get parts for the old Evinrude?
I definitely will need a water pump, and a carb kit.
Probably good idea to replace the 43 year old control cables as well

They sell all of the above here at iboats except for maybe the carb kits but i haven't had the need to look for those. On the control cables you just have to make sure you get the old type omc cable ends.
