My baby needs braces.

I just got through paying for my son's braces and now my daughter needs them. We just found out today that it's going to cost $4,500.00 <br /><br />I'm just wondering how many of you have had to pay for braces recently. How does this compare? Somehow I get they feeling that the orthodontist sees me as his next 10 payments on his Mercedes.

BTDT!<br />That's about what I had to pay for my daughter's, too. But her teeth look great, and it helped with her self-image. In my opinion, it was worth it (and, yes, I felt I was making the monthly payments on the orthodontist's Porche... but in his defense, it WAS a nice car!)

I am going through it with my 7 year old daughter right now too. We are on stage one with the retainers and the spacers. She has had them for about 6 months now. Stage one comes with a $75 a month payment book...ain't that special. Just like the dang car I just paid off. Guess I would have missed the having a payment book. <br />So I ask my wife how long stage one is...she says the Dr. isn't exactly sure, depends on how her teeth move around. Oh, I see...depends on how long before he plans on trading the BMW in for a new bright and shiny.<br />I can't wait 'till stage two with the braces. Wonder if that comes with a nice new payment book too? <br />Goodbye nice new Grady White!

joew94th, you're paying the norm. My youngun just got out of his braces and is in the last phase of the treatment. His was more expensive than yours though, I think his was around 6,500 to 7K. He had to have oral surgery to hook chains to his two upper K-9's, that weren't in yet, so they pulled down in to the proper position before they laid the braces in place. PLUS, he had to have about 4 to 6 teeth pulled to make room in his mouth! Its all worth it though. NOW we're going through the Acutane treatments for acne. Its a never ending thing. But like I said its all worth it.

My daughter is currently in braces. We are paying a little less then you but different kids, different problems.<br /><br />Where I work offers defered compensation. We can put money into a medical expense account and it comes out before taxes. We are given a credit card to use for medical expenses. The orthodontist just bills this card monthly for his fee. It is debited against my paycheck.<br />Makes the paying of it easy and less painfull.<br />Also will save me about $600.00 in taxes.<br /><br />See if your employer offers anything like this.

got 2 in braces right now. son was about the same<br />cost, daughter is over $6K <br />her jaw is really narrow and there isn't enough<br />room for all the teeth. she's getting 2 pulled<br />today in fact, and 2 more a lil' later.<br />(sep. doctor/bill)<br />it's only money, right?

Got two stepsons in braces diff. phases(10 and 12)no matter what the cost it is worth it, theyr'e self image, not gettin made fun of etc. is worth itDon't think other 3 will need it, thank god for insurance! Heinz

Hey, and then there is college!<br /><br />So who ever came up with the Idea, that it is the parents "RESPOSABILITY" to send there kids to college???<br /><br />Im all for it if you are lucrative enough, but Ive allways been under the opinion that the kid should have to pay for some of it at least!<br /><br />My folks insisted that I go to college, I wanted to go to a trade school, and my dad made me go to a business college. Ya right, like that was going to work! I didnt want to go and it showed, All I ever did was party, my grades took a dump, Uncle Sam was right there for me and off I went!
