I am my fifth season into my used 2004 Mercury 250 saltwater EFI. I have no idea how many hours it had when I bought it but it's never given me a lick of trouble. Runs gr8 idles gr8. I'm getting up the nerve to go offshore, 14 miles last time. On the way in last trip the engine just died suddenly, like someone switched off the key. I looked at the LCD multi-instrument panel and it was off. Engine started right back up and cruised problem free for another 10 miles back into shore. As we were bouncing around pretty good it's possible the key did trip somehow. But it also seemed to me it died in really low rpms once while we were out there. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance this is a wonderful board.

Sounds like a loose connection. Carb motors do not use battery power when running, but I would assume an EFI motor would need battery power to operate, and it sounds like it was interrupted.
