my boat floor stinks!

Does anyone else use a bowrider for fishing? My carpete floor smells like shrimp/crab/bait. <br />Besides hosing it down best I can, any other suggestions?

Besides getting rid of carpet and laying composite, try steam cleaning. You need to soak carpet in cleaner and then suck it out...hosing off will just lift the scum and settle it in another place...Then keep it dry and keep the fish off the carpet. Not much more you can do beyond that. If you have a wood deck, your wood might be getting soft and absorbing that nice fish smell. Carpet+fishing= boat trade

use a tespoon of oxy-clean per gallon of water and suck it back off with the shopvac after a good scub

Carpet on a boat floor,+ Fishing is a Pretty Poor Mix,...........<br /><br />Personally,........ I'll never own a boat with Carpet in the Cockpit.........

I had a pontoon and a bass boat and used a small Karcher electric pressure washer from Lowes.About 1200psi.Rarely used any detergent.Pick a nice sunny warm day with a breeze,open up the hatches and let her dry.

Spray it with Raritan K.O. Let the K.O. dry in the carpet, do not hose it out. The live bacteria in K.O. will digest the bugs making the stink, and kill the smell.

Strato,what is Raritan ko??? Is it something usually used in holding tanks??

Yes Charlie, it is, but Peggie Hall (marine sanitation guru) always recommended to use KO for just this type of application. It works using friendly bacteria, which have been born and bred to eat the stinky bacteria.<br /><br />Plus it has a nice wild cherry smell ;-)

wipe some Vicks vapor rub under your nose before going boating<br /><br />if that doesn't work, try a closepin

Use vinegar and water 50/50 solution spray it on and vacume it up.it will make your carpet look like new and get rid of the smell.

Plus, the vinegar will smell nice alongside the fish! Like merrie olde England!
