It makes no difference to me if Lund is owned by Brunswick or not,...the fact
is that when that "special day" comes to go up and make that purchase on another A-14,it WILL NOT get into the water unless there is a Yamaha on
the transom! Come to think of it,...about two weeks ago,I was at my local Lund dealer and guess what I seen. A brand new Lund boat(we are talking a
2008 Lund)with a Yamaha 90 four stroke on the transom. That boat's owner
must have insisted on that Yamaha,...if that is the case,Good choice on his
part. Any motor but Mercury. Well, having said all that,...that is the way it is going to be when I make my purchase(hopefully late summer or early fall,...soon enough to at least get the motor "broken in'.). I have a Lund dealer lined up in Coldwater,Michigan who WILL install a Yamaha on that A-14
just in case the guy up in North webster,In. does not want to get me the Yamaha. Again,...my A-14 WILL NOT go in the water without a Yamaha on
the transom. MY boat,...MY way!"

Re: My boat,...MY way!

There are alot of folks that dismiss Lund because they think they have to get a Lund with a Merc hanging on the back. If your dealer will not deliver to you a boat with another competitive outboard, then seek another dealer. Now, it may cost you to have the pre-rigging removed and have new rigging put on, but you should be able to have it your way!

Last year, I purchased a Lund Mr. Pike and had it mounted with a hold over '06 Johnson 90 2 stroke! My dealer had boats in stock without motors, had Lunds with E-Tecs, and had what we see the most- with a Merc.

It can be done if you find the right dealer- you can have it your way. It is just a matter of cost....

Thanks for your reply. Keep in mind that the Lund A-14 is a simple little
14 ft. Utility-v bottom row boat,so,...it should make no difference who's
outboard is hanging on the transom. I did find the dealer up in Michigan who will put a Yamaha motor on this boat. High fuel prices or not,it may very well
be worth the trip up to buy from him just for that very reason. Now,...the only concern would be that when the motor requires service, would I be able to take it to any Yamaha outboard motor dealer for that service without any
hassle from Yamaha or the servicing dealer that would be closer to home?
I have heard some people say that Mercury is really picky about who you go
to for service, especially under warranty. But what if you are way out of town
and you need service on whatever brand of motor you run? Your thoughts?

Let me say up front- I do not own a Yamaha. But have been in the situation a couple of times where we have needed service on someones outboard when on vacation fishing.

I have never found a Yamaha dealer (I am sure there is one out there) that won't service a Yamaha. In general there dealer network seems to be great- at least where I have needed a Yamaha dealer in Montana or Minnesota. I have to say, every Yamaha dealer we have been to has been great about getting us service if we have needed it.

One time we needed to get the carbs cleaned on a 115 V4.... It was the first trip of the season and my buddy had the carbs gummed up...I still love that old 2 stroke....

Obviously, I always encourage folks to support their local dealer when they can....we need to keep the local dealers alive,,,,

Thanks,Ziemann, for that input. I feel more confident that a Yamaha dealer
would be very willing to servive a Yamaha outboard no matter where you
buy it,unlike Mercury. I have heard Mercury is pretty darn well picky about
where you have their motors serviced when under warranty. But then again
I have also heard Mercury does not back their motors very well when warranty work is needed,...which is why I am choosing Yamaha this time
around for power on my next boat. If I buy from my closest dealer,I will
just have to make him understand that if I can't have a Yamaha installed
by his place,I will go to the guy up in Coldwater,Michigan. Thanks again.
