Has anyone had this happen???
I hauled my 95 Four Winns 240 Horizon from Salt lake city to Bass Lake, Calif. When i took it off the trailer it was fine, i put it in forward and turned to stb and the entire boat shook like the engine mounts were loose. I shut it off, docked it, looked for a problem and pondered. Started again and just turned the wheel, and it shook again. The outdrive was up enough, i was not hitting bottom. My prop is good. I was worried i somehow bent the shaft hauling it. I talked to mechanic at marina, and he had no clue. I got digging into it and noticed on the top of steering ram there was a cap that looked like it should be screwed on the sheath over the ram. I screwed it back on and no shaking when i turned the wheel. Boat ran great for 2 days there.
I'm worried though that something is maybe wrong why that would come off in the first place??? My ps hose was leaking a bit there too. There is a bit of play in the whole assembly. Is that normal??
Thanks for any suggestions!!

I would suspect that the leaking hose is the culprit and it sounds like you had air in the system. Normally if you have air in you system a couple of turns will bleed it out and it will shake like crazy while it is in there. I just replaced the engine in my boat and of course I had to disconnect the power steering hoses after firing it back up mine did the same thing until I bled all the air out.

Thanks for the reply. It was not out of fluid and it was a small leak. It quit shaking ad soon as I screwed that end on the shaft over ram. I did not know it would do that with air in the line tho. I will try to snap a picture of it later.
Thanks again.
