Re: my compression sucks?

ya, that kind of discrepancy is very bad.

are you using a reliable compression tester?

its very probable you've got internal damage and yes, repair will be necessary.

take the heads off to have a looksee at the damage and assess from there.

If the boat has been sitting pull the plugs , Spray WD40 into each cylinder a n rotate by hand , do this 2 or 3 times and put the plugs back in , let it sit for 2 days and recheck compression after running . Rings just may be stuck .

Re: my compression sucks?

Since two cylinders are bad--forget about wasting time with seafoam--it will not improve.

So: since two cylinders are bad, you may as well bore and replace all four for a brand new engine. Approximately 500 in pistons, 200 in overbore charges and another 50 for gaskets. Price for pistons I am quoting is Wiseco. They come complete with rings and wristpin.

Since you never did a powerhead before, figure 10 hours to disassemble and 10 to reassemble. No special tools other than a torque wrench and flywheel puller are needed. If you can tie your shoelaces, you can do the rebuild.

Oh, yeah! Helps a bit if you have access to a hydraulic press to press out the wristpins.

run some mercury power tune through it as perscribed on the can. If the numbers don't go up and be even then you have a scrapper.
