Can anyone help me figure out what i have ?
I know for sure its a 1068 Duratech 14 ft closed bow but that's about it
also would like to know the max power rating for it ?
I picked this little gem up for a song with trailer .
It came with a 6hp Evinrude way under powered but i have plenty of engines to choose from including a 1958 Johnson sea horse one owner not run since 1972 ..
a new impeller and a pressure tank of gas and started on the sixth pull !!
Also need to replace the windshield the original was cracked and then i broke it trying to shorten it but i saved the mounting track..
I'm looking for a replacement if anyone has a source..
I'm in NH
Thanks Joe

Re: My Duratech

Joe, I feel your pain. I too shortened my windshield frame and tried to cut down my original windshield, but it cracked badly. Those 45 year old windshields can be a bit brittle! I went to Home Depot and picked up a thickness of plexi which fit into my frame. I made a template from a thick sheet of plastic film and drew it out on the plexi. I taped it and cut it carefully, then heated the area needing to be curved slightly with a heat gun...keep it moving or you'll melt it. I put a bead of clear caulk in the frame slot since my clips were all rusty and destroyed. I was able to secure it down to the decking with the same hardware, although since the windshield was now about 6 or 7 inches shorter, I moved it considerably closer to the helm...so I patched up the original holes and drilled new. I was careful with the measurements! It's a success...you can see it in the Duratech gallery as "JoeMan's '64 Neptune" at www.duratechboats.com

Next time, I'd use Lexan, as it can take the bending without stress cracks over time...more expensive.

Hope this helps.

Yes...I did the same thing...forgot to mention that. Mine is a split windshield as well. I took a chrome piece and covered the centerline of the plexi...nobody except you and I need to know that it's because the plexi is split. It looks decorative and re-enforcing as well. Yep, let us see it when you've got her done.

By the way Joe - this is what you've got. A Duratech Meteor 14 foot runabout. This is from the original '68 catalog. There is only one other 14 footer, and that one has a splash panel in the rear, as well as wider gunwales. So, this is definitely it.

You can put up to a 40 hp outboard, and the OBC is 1,026 lbs. Nice hull!

I guess that could be my boat? Could you please get me the info on the other 14 footer? And the catalog pics? Thanks a ton!

Re: My Duratech

Yep, I requested that the Penn Yan Duratech section be added to the PennYanbbs site, and they created it within the last year. Not much activity there, since well over 90% of the folks who've contacted us at the DuratechBoats.com website have Duratech-built Duratechs rather than Penn Yan built. Hopefully as more and more folks dig for Duratech info, the Penn Yan Duratech owners will find and jump on that forum...but I would think this is likely to be repository of most Duratech forum type activity.
