Ok so here goes the story.

Yesterday cleaned the carb jets, new float,... etc... Earlier today put the ear muffs on and sprayed almost a full can of seafoam through the carb on and off for about an hour. Tons of smoke - good stuff. Had better idleing afterwards.

Get to the lake an hr or 2 later - engine starts first pull purrs like a kitten. Ran it for about 30 min on and off the thing ran like a bat out of hell! UNTIL When I would idle... there would be a very loud CHIRP! YES a CHIRP... like a bird. Checked the cowl for song birds..none :)

At high RPM's no problem, no loss of power. Put my hand on the engine block.. not to hot to touch. Wasn't overheating. However when I was idling and at idling speeds there were chirps every 3-4 seconds.... so I ran it for about 30 more minutes on and off with the chirp until I had throttle wide open and the engine died. It was as if the kill switch was thrown and the rpms slowed down gradually and the engine stopped and almost started again, but no luck. Put my hand on the engine block again, still not to hot to touch.. not overheating.... Thought it was the gas... checked the gas.. tons. I pulled the rope a thousand times... still no luck. (thankfully I had a trolling motor with a fully charged battery). I pulled the cowl off during my long ride back and noticed a little bolt sitting on the side of the cowling that must have vibrated out (it certainly wasn't there before) It seemed as if it had fallen out of the manual start cover area.

Too tired to pull it apart tonight, however I was hoping maybe someone has heard of an engine that had chirped... then died.

My t heory is.. find where the bolt resided and solve my problem.

EDIT: Fixed it. My Carb bolts vibrated off. The carb was slowly separating from the engine block, hence the occasional chirp, hence the engine eventually dying. Some of the gaskets broke however I have a new gasket kit coming soon so we're good.

Thanks

Nick
