my first boat was a 16' 1961 mfg lapstreak fiberglass beauty with a 40hp 1968johnson ob. i bought this setup in 1976, ran it till 1989.in all those years my fuel consmumption averaged 5 mpg , using nav charts for distance. that includes going w/o throttle, trolling, full load, no load and just about everything in between for 13 years and i went everywhere with it .up the ct river from salmon river boat launch or down to the sound and out past the saybrook breakwater a little ways. from the niantic boat launch out into the sound and up the thames to norwich plus quite a few of ct's lakes.top speed was 26 mph.this boat just had a compass and a speedometer.
last year i bought another boat this one is even more beautiful.it's exactly what i wanted a 22 walkaround with a 200hp johnson both are 2000. this one has everything except a windlass and radar. last summer was great! but i just stayed on the ct river to me its a lot of boat to get used to. this year however those big ocean fish better look out cause here i come. boat got up to 43mph and gets 2mpg. not to bad considering average weight is about 4500ish lbs. its the simles on the faces of family and friends that makes boating worthwhile not the mpg. boats just don't slide very well on the water.
