Well folks I started early this year. Today, Jan. 17th I went on my first fishing trip of the year. My wife and I went in my truck and our son and his girlfriend went in her car. We went to the Maramec (local river). The road into the river runs very close to an almost straight drop off into the river. As we pulled in my son, driving a small car went in first with me following in my truck. He made it just fine as the little car is front wheel drive and smaller. My full size Ford got about half way through when I felt that horrible feeling of the rear end sliding towards the river and the drop off. Well I managed to do some fancy manuvering to avoid dumping my truck in the river but man did I stick it good. To make it fully worse there was a bunch of people straight across the river from us to witness the whole thing. Now bare to mind that I am very hard of hearing. My son takes off walking he goes around the slab across the river and asks the other folks if they will pull me out. He is gone for a while then comes back and says they can't do it. During this whole time no one (my wife should have known this) tells me that he (my son) has hollered across the river to ask if I have a chain. My son had just been in the back of truck 10 min. earlier unloading all the fishing gear. So I'm sitting on the river bank fishing (nothing else much to do till help arrives) my son calls my nephew to come pull me out and has my nephew go to MY house where my sons little truck is and get his chain. My nephew says he will be there in a while but he is quite a ways from where we are. So it getting colder by the moment everyone is shivering and running the heaters on the vehicles to warm up every so often. To add insult to injury NO FISH. Well my nephew arrives it takes all of 30 seconds to pull the truck out then my son says hey dad you need to carry a chain with you. He then tells me the folks on the other side of the river would have gladly helped if we would have had a chain. I then take my son to the back of my truck and point to my chain and he gets this oh crud look on his face then it's his turn to be in the spot light. It was a good laugh after it was over and we had a good day even though the fish weren't biting. Dave
