Re: my first project boat

Welcome to iboats, the best source of boat available! Today I discovered my '75 Gypsy 16 has serious deck/stringer rot. What a drag. I, also, paid $300.00 for mine but I did sell the bad motor to someone for parts for $200.00. Boy, spend $100.00 on a boat & 3 tears later you gotta fix it! Oh, well, I've been lucky to get the use I did out of it. I think I'll run the gas out & start tearing it apart. You & I will be doing the same things to almost the same boat. At least I can rebuild it to fit the use I give it better than it's current set-up. More storage, rod locker in the center of the deck, casting deck up front, etc. I'll post it's progress in the restoration forum & post links from this forum as I go. I sell A/C's for a living so don't get much free time when it's warm enough to work on it. Anybody have a heated/ cooled large garage in central Ohio I can borrow for a few months?

Re: my first project boat

Thanks for the welcoming party ...I live in york Pa... I started to repair the hull already.. There was some holes from the old owner loading the boat on the trailer. He didnt have the rollers adjusted correctly and the bottom of the boat would rub on the trailer. So i started to fix the little patches first. Then i started to see where the other owner tried to repair it before. What an idiot he was. for the holes about a size of a dime i was thinking about using that epoxy putty stick for fiberglass as a filler( it can even be applied underwater for emergancy repairs stuff is amazing).then epoxy over top as a sealer. Next question on the areas that i fiberglassed do i use a topcoat or a gelcoat to seal the fiberglass:confused:
