Unless you let the engine run for five minutes or so after adding fuel stabilizer, all you stabilized was the fuel in the tank. You need to get that mixture into the carb and the only way to do that is to let the engine run. Spraying fogging oil into the carb and then spinning the engine a couple times does not get that job done right either. Spray it into the carb with the engine running (after you added stabiizer). The engine may die as you spray the fogging oil and that's good. You know it got into the cylinders. Now you can pull the plugs and give each cylinder an additional shot if you so desire. Remove the battery or if you have a battery maintainer on board, plug it in and leave it on all winter. Otherwise disconnect the cables and bring it inside.

Re: my first winterizing

Did you know the Cobra has 3 plugs in the pivot housing (part of the transom assembly the drive bolts to) that have to be removed to drain water? There are 2 on the starboard side and 1 on the port, tilt it up, remove them, tilt down let it drain, then tilt up and replace. Also you need to remove the large hose at the front of the engine that goes from the thermo housing to the circulating pump on the front of the engine, a lot of water will drain out of that. Sounds like you filled from there, but did you take it off to drain first? Finally you have to drain the raw water intake hose that goes from the transom to the thermo housing, that will also drain the power steering cooler on the rear of the engine.

When pulling the 3 screws Lou mentioned make sure you pull the right 3, they should be all the same size, if there is one a little larger don't touch it. Normally there is a Cobra badge covering this screw so you don't see it but over the years they fall off and guys make the mistake of pulling this screw out and then you have to remove the drive to get at the nut plate that just fell inside!

The whole time i had my Cobra i never took those screws out:eek:
I drained the block, manifolds and steering cooler.
I did fill the hoses with anti freeze until it ran out of the drive.
Was i lucky or what?

Well not much water comes out, nothing like the engine drains, but I'd say you got lucky ;)

BTW, Bob is right about the big screw you may see in the center of each side of the upper gear unit, originally covered with a Cobra medallion, there is a big screw with a retaining piece inside the drive in a water passage, if you remove this by mistake the retainer will fall down in the water passage and you get to remove the drive to fish it out! The ones I am talking about are much smaller, about the size of the drain screws on the drive and are in the pivot housing, which is the part of the transom assembly the drive bolts to.
