my freeze out plug blew out on my outdrive while on the water

got a 1968 starcraft hoilday with a 120 mer inboard with a merc outdrive. the outdrive is newer then the boat itself. you can see pics of it on my other post in the restro section. Just bought it this past summer, took out for about a week and during that week noticed that a quarter size silver plug in the side of the outdrive had popped out. Going to restro the boat anyway , but was wondering if that did any damage because i was still on the water when it happned. Not will familar with outdrives to much other then impeller repalcement and normal up keep. hoping that i didnt do a any damage adnn that my outdrive still can be used this year. There wasnt any shifting problems or running problems with teh outdrive after that happned. taped over teh hole till i got it back to the ramp:facepalm:

It covers a pipe plug under it. Get a new plug from a Merc dealer and install it.

thanks don, i'm glad to here you say or that you didnt say buy a new outdrive yours is trashed lol. i'll put that on my big list of parts to get.

that chamber also houses the shift cable. plan on replacing that too because of the water intrusion.
