I finished removing the hook and speed coating the hull, fixed all the gouges on the keel, and painted the bottom- I will spray the deck this week, and start to rig it shortly- 18' Marlin- 455 Olds Big block, berkeley jet drive

Good looking project.

I hope your Berkley jet is good & tight. Them mud suckers lose their tollerances & wear out pretty fast if the previous owner ran it on wet grass instead of clean water ya know.

Ok why is the boat red and the bottom black? Is it some kinda coating, and does it make it faster?

Re: My Go Fast, Be Loud project

Thanks, Guys- It's been a long road to get this to where it's at now- Hopefully I'll get her wet very soon-
Realgun- The coating on the bottom is a dry graphite film to (hopefully) free up a couple more mph. I removed the hook that averaged about 1/4" from the last 6 feet of the hull, and sharpened all of the lifting strakes and the transom edge to knife like edges.
hylanderr- can you post some pics, or e-mail them to me? I'd like to see that boat, and the pump. Are you in Washington state? Thanks, Stan

Re: My Go Fast, Be Loud project

Just an update- the 455 has run flawlessly for over 50 hrs in the past two seasons, but I decided to kick it up a notch! This spring it will have a new full length stringer set-up, a new floor and an aluminum rail kit to help contain the additional the extra horsepower I should see with this twin turbo set-up!!

Thanks, Bondo- I'm kinda partial to it myself! :D I have loved this hull style since about 1978 when my best friend bought a Taylor SS with a 460 ford- We had more fun with that boat than you can imagine ;) I waited 20+ yrs to build my own, and find that I just can't leave it alone- Never Enough, ya know? I love the way the boat handles- it will turn hard enough to toss you out, and handles a mild chop like it's not even there- Best riding hull I've ever owned, although the water on the bay that day just about beat us to death! 18 ft low freeboard boat can be challenging in 2-3' swells, and really interesting when a big old sport fisher cruises by  - Gotta stay on your toes!
