My 1989 Johnson 150 is leaking black oil from the bottom of the power head and down the front of the lower unit.I am assumeing it is due to a exhaust gasket leak. The motor runs great and I would hate to pull the power head if it is just a matter of cleaning the lower unit after use. Will this condition hurt the motor in any way if I continue to use with the leaking gasket??
Thanks John

I don't think it would hurt a bit but you might wait until someone with a lot more knowledge than I responds. What I would do though is thououghly clean your engine before you go out the next time so that you can determine exactly where the leak is coming from and the extent of the leak. I would guess that your engine is pretty dirty since the exhaust gasses are under pressure.

Howdy, Pullnit.

If your engine is leaking exhaust fumes into the bonnet, it will eventually hurt performance. Otherwise I think it is merely a nuisance.

Good luck. :)
