give me a call. I'll take off your hands.

Remove carb, COMPETELY dissamble, clean everything, including the jets, re assemble with new gaskets, needle and seat and float. Replace plug wires and check compression.

Re: My Lemon 86 30hp Rude, Where Next?

i have cleaned the carb twice (pulled the high speed jet out and it looks as clean as can be).
neddle, seat & float all look good. (did the upside down air flow trick)
i didnt replace any gaskets , is it really neccessary if they are sealing fine.

spark is good, (both plugs are burning alike)
i havent checked compression yet. (my neighbor still looking for MY tester)

she starts great (1 pull of the primer and purrs like a kitten)
idles fine, sputters a bit out of the hole off the low speed jet. then when i hit wot and the butterfly opens i get a good mist of fuel shootin out the high speed jet, THEN about 10 seconds into wot she shuts down like i slammed on the breaks. but she dont quit running just goes back to idle with me still holding the throttle open.
when i let off the throttle and start the same process over the same thing happens.

i have tried squezzing the bulb (no help)
i sqiurted gas into the carb as i hit wot and it still does it. (dam near fall out of the boat doing this)

it runs fine except for wot thats why im not thinking compression (goona check it tho, soon i hope)

could it possibly be over revving, i can run 3/4 throttle all day.
when at wot the butterfly is straight across and the throttle roller is 1 1/4" off the cam

Thanks for the repies, Dew

Sounds like a fuel starvation problem. Is your fuel tank venting properly? Good Luck!

No change when you spray some pre-mix in the carb when it bogs? Not a fuel-starve issue. Do the compression test, and also check the spark at idle, midrange, and full throttle. You may have to jump the starter directly to get it to turn over in gear with the throttle wide open. I don't know what could cause the spark to change w/throttle on a CD system, but the test will at least rule it out.
Also, when it bogs like that, let it go back to slow while you still have it at WOT, and immediately shut it down and check the plugs, if they're all wet w/fuel, it must be a spark issue or an ultra rich condition.. Good luck!

is your timing advancing>check that the throttle is advancing the timerbase under the flywheel,be sure to let us know when its fixed

Sounds to me like the timing advance is not moving past the 3/4 throttle timing position. May be an issue with the linkage...

Re: My Lemon 86 30hp Rude, Where Next?

i agree with the sentiment towards an ignition issue but without a proper compression check, ignition check, and a completely kitted carb, it's completely up in the air.

Those gaskets, no matter how good they look and appear to seal, should be replaced every time. Why? You're going to get this problem resolved and six months down the road, your carb/intake gasket will finally give up while you're boogieing down the lake at WOT, a piston will lean out, dentonate your powerhead, and you'll be right back here yelling about what a lemon your now grenaded 30hp Evinrude is. A carb kit is cheap insurance.

Re: My Lemon 86 30hp Rude, Where Next?

THANKS FELLAS,
i think its time to go to the shop.
im with all you on the timing/ignition idea, but thats were my ability ends considering i am just a shade tree mech.

i will let you know what my mech. does to make it run right for future reference.

and i agree with you jeff, But im not goona use a new gasket evertime i take the carb off. only on the last time (hopefully)

THANKS AGAIN!!

Re: My Lemon 86 30hp Rude, Where Next?

You have a stator problem its shutting down on you at high speeds connect a in line spark tester and run with cowling off, open to WOT and you will see the spark dropping my 2 cents
