My little motor won't start

Hi there Folks!

I have a 2005 Mariner 4 HP kicker motor and can't seem to get it to fire up. Gas is new, Plug is new , but I took the plug out and left it connected to the sp wire and pulled the rope and NO SPARK ! What should I check next????

If the metal shell of the plug was not held against the engine the plug can't fire because the circuit is not complete. Spark can't jump to ground (the shell) if the shell is not at ground potential. If it was held against the head, then look for a kill switch issue or ignition switch issue.
