I have a problem with my carb. I can start my engine just fine, and it idles fine, but just as soon as I put it in gear and give it gas, it dies right off the bat. But, if i put my hand over the air intake and restrict the air flow just a little, it will run fine. The more air I give it the better it runs, until I remove my hand and then it dies again. i have tried tunning the amount of gas that goes into the engine, but that does not help either. I have cleaned the carb, and like I said earlier, it starts and idles fine. I can also give it gas without it being in gear and it will idle up fine, but then wants to die. What do you think the problem is? Is it too much air or not enough gas.

jason,

You're not getting enough fuel.

Possibilities:

1. Clogged high speed jet.

2. Float level wrong.

3. Sucking air at fuel connection. Common on Merc's.

4. Fuel tank vent open?
