Hi guys

Mercarb 2BBL 33049565 7Y03 fitted to a 1988 Mercruiser V6 4.3L
I originally posted a thread to ask if fuel dripping from my Carbs venturi's was ok. NHGUY talked about a Power Piston which in turn lead me to this missing part, to which I thank him, because I couldn't find it on my Carb, or in fact in the parts list in the Mercruiser Service Manual.:confused:

I posted a thread asking about the missing part (a Power Piston or Power Valve Actuator as achris calls it) to ask further questions and achris very kindly helped out to advise that it should be there. He also said that it was not a stock part and I may have to find an old carb from somewhere and use its bits. I've tried all the Mercruiser Service Centre's in the UK and some of them don't even know what this part is or does.

So here's my dilemma, its a $10 part which may cost me a new Carb which is about $6-700 depending on which Parts store you visit, or there are re-manufactured ones on Ebay for $300, new Air Horn's are not available seperately any more.

I've written to two US Carburettor shops who sell a Rochester Power Piston but they didn't know if it would fit mine, but there is a guy online called Mikes Carburettors in Rochester who says it is not the same and will not fit and he doesn't have one.

Since you guys are extremely resourceful and very helpful there might be just the one avenue which one of you knows about which I need to go down to find someone who has an old useless carb with this bit in it which is servicable.

Help?

I am an idiot, you voiced you have a Mercarb and not the older Rochester...........nevermind the last post. I know that the Mercarb power pistons are not straight but have a slight bend in them vs the Rochester one. To be honest, I am not sure if you can get a power piston for the Mercarb. If I am not mistaken those are not sold seperately but has part of the carb body itself. I might be wrong but you might be stuck in this situation. You may have to find a spare part somewhere or buy another carb.

No problem Captain Braine, thanks for trying.

Quote from stonyloam "There must be millions of those things on junk boats all over"

Thats what I am thinking. We have very a lot of imported US boats in the UK but not by the millions unfortunately, which is why I'm coming over to the Mother Country! :joyous:

Thank you so much for the link.

I don't know what your money situation is like but it may be easier to just get another carb. Marine Carburetors | MerCruiser | OMC | Volvo Penta | Rochester | Holley. This is a good place for a Mercarb. I know several people that have used them and NEVER had an issue (yet anyway). They are $300.00, but sometimes it is worth just paying and being done with it.

It may be worth $300 to not miss out on any more boating season over there in Mother Country :)

Re: My missing Mercarb part - Help!

Thanks again

I've written to them and also the Marine Salvage to see if they may have the part as a split from a N/S Carb. The added problem for me of course is shipping. For small items it can be worth it, for larger items shipping can often be half the price of the item plus we pay import duty and VAT, which would make the overall cost roughly the same as buying new in the UK.

The weird thing is, ths boat runs OK without the Piston and because its never been there I can only assume she would be a little quicker with it in. My boating therefore wont suffer much if I cant get the bit and then maybe over the Winter I'll look for a replacement.

Thanks again Guys.
