I was using My 3 week old Johnson 6 out on the lake today when it started reving up then down then up then down then it suddenly stopped. I tried to restart but no luck. I started to row back but luckely managed to get a tow. I read the manual and it appears the engine flooded.
How can this happen if it had been runnimg fine for 20minutes? How can i prevent this from happening?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Re: My new 6 flooded

If the engine flooded out, fuel would overcome the combustion chamber and the engine would simply die sown very quickly and die out. It would not gain and lose rpms as you've explained.

Your explanation of reving up then down and repeating that action until it finally stopped is typical of a engine that is running out of gas.

This is usually caused by a air/fuel leak at one of the fuel connectors or a failed fuel pump.
