woo hoo bought me my first boat! and im excited. i have been frequenting this site quite often but this is my first post and i have a few questions/thoughts. so i picked up a 70's somthing gt 150 being that its a glastron i thought id' ing exactly what year would be easy but i havent been able to track down that info. i really need to know approx. how much the boat weighs being that im planning on installing a tow hitch on my smaller 2 door car. car rates 1000 pound max towing. im about to pull the carbs off the 1978 johnson 85 hp v-4 and rebuild them. the motor runs strong but idles rough and bogs down when given full throttle so sounds like carbs to me right?!? but im a little worried about "synching" the carbs or adjusting the needles for fuel flow ive read a couple posts on here on how to do that but they seem to confuse me.i plan on doing some cosmetic work because the boat is faded black and the motor paint is all chipped up. the original seats were torn out and it has 4 fold down style seats in it with blue marine carpet throughout gonna redo the ski locker since it has no front plate and is looking kinda rough. but i was wondering... the capacity plate is missing, i know the capacity, but is the coast guard gonna have a problem with it not being there? i live in destin florida so the boat has sat through a short mild winter and the previous owner ran it all last season. the boat is pretty bare bones with only one working gauge... the tach... but im looking forward to getting some work done on this boat since im taking a short vacation from work next week. i will post pics soon but i have to dig out my digital camera wherever it is... thanks in advance im pretty stoked being this is my first boat... thanks in advance guys and ill ttyl

Steve......

That'll ol' Glastron will be more then 1000lbs, how much more I dunno. If the foam is waterlogged from improper storage the foam could weigh in at 500 lbs. Figure 500lbs for the trailer...and so on...

No it's not. Not even sorta. You won't have adequate, safe, stopping power and you my have trouble retrieving depending on the steepness of the ramp.

That's a great boat. As a kid, we had a GT 160 so I'm kind of partial to them.

Like the other posters said, you need to get a proper tow vehicle, even if its just an old beater pickup you just use to make the short trip to the launch.

Good luck on the refurb and lookin forward to some pics.

Basic hull weighs around 700-750 and the engine is around 325-350. Then 50-60 lbs for the battery, two tanks of fuel is 100, 10 for the anchor, and another 20-30 for vests, extinguisher and line, sundries. Don't forget 8-16 lbs for beer--LOL. At any rate, you will be overweight.

In an emergency, I towed an 18 footer 35 miles with a chevy cavalier 4 cylinder. It did it and it was actually better pulling out of the ramp than my regular vehicle, but I would not recommend it. That's really asking too much of a small passenger vehicle. Buy a cheap used older Ranger or S10 and tow with that. you will be much happier.

BTW: with the 85 in good running condition, expect 50 MPH. If you overpower it with a 135, like James Bond did, expect 65 MPH.
