Just picked this up last night:

It's an '85 Evinrude 15HP. I've had my eye out for a while and have missed a few deals. This one wasn't a particularly great deal at $600 but fair for the size. 9.9s and 15s are very desirable and get snatched up quickly especially in my area where there's a lot of river boating going on. The seller said he had at least two people to call to say it was gone once I picked it up. It's nice to get a fully legit 15 as opposed to a 9.9 that someone claims to have put a 15 carb on. It's a short shaft which may not be ideal for a kicker but it should work fine on the huge-*** stainless adjustable kicker bracket I picked up on CL a couple months ago. But really, I just can't wait to try it out on my dad's little 14' http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w200/ezmobee/DSCF2577.jpg It's gonna haul! I'd love to sell my 4HP but I'm thinking my dad is going to want to keep it.

Re: My new kicker

Good for you man, Im glad to hear that you are siked about this! My '81 9.9 really pushed my 14' flatbottom, loaded with 2 people, 2 batteries, full gear, 6 gallons of gas, trolling motors. And you finally have a reason to install that nice new kicker bracket!!

Re: My new kicker

That 9.9 of yours was CHERRY!

Thanks bro! I still have the 9.9, just wish Id kept the boat too. I need a little pond skipper. What type of compression readings did you get on that 15? And my cavvy plate measures 17" or so from the top of transom mount, its one of the longest short shafts I have seen. What does yours measure, I would think it is the same. Anywho, if it is it will be a great little kicker!

Started her up today. Started quickly, ran smooth, shifted and pumped water. Can't wait to get it on the water!

EZ ... looking forward to hearing how the 15 goes on the aluminum boat. We have a fiberglass one similar to that and put our 15 on it ... brought it home rather quick; the thing actually scared us a little

Re: My new kicker

if you find you run the 14' boat with a full load most of the time, might want to get a solar 4 blade 9pitch prop. I have one on my 15hp johnson 2 stroke, pushes my 14' klamath much better when I have 3 people in it. Also works better as the kicker on my 21' starcraft, get the rpms up.
On the klamath at about 5,000' feet she runs 5200 rpms with 1 pob
Starcraft @ sea level runs 4800 rpms @ 5 mph.

Hope your fish dont glow in the dark from the Nuke Plant in the background. Looks like the new motor is a real winner thats why I love Evinrudes.

My old man had one of those on a 14 footer last year and that thing was awesome. Youre gonna really enjoy it.

Re: My new kicker

Ez could you post a pick of the bracket you have. I'm beginning to think this one I have is cutting it too close. It's rated for up to 7.5 HP however it seems a little dinky compared to others I've seen. Is hate to loose it into the drink someday...

I cannot be held responsible for any feelings of inadequacy you may experience after viewing these pictures of my monster stainless bracket that I got for $50 off CL :p
