Wow! You'll be smoking the bass boats. BTW, what does the capacity plate have for max horsepower?

That would be 125 HP . Hell Yeah. I rebuilt the boat over the winter and bolstered up the new transom to handle more power and I'm installing hydraulic steering this winter . The 225 I had on there before scooted right along but this thing is over the top.

I don't need anything this powerful but I got a real good deal on it in a market where used motors are WAY too expensive. What I may end up doing with it is finding someone with a complete 150-200 HP 2.5 powerhead who wants to trade for this racehorse motor on a one for one basis. Shouldnt be too hard but it better be a top condition 2.5.

What year is it? What ECU?

JAN. A steel sleeve powerhead (production 2.5) won't work on that adapter without some modification to tha coolin' system........There are a few "other" things that would need to be addressed if you plan on keeping that cowl as far as a late model stock 2.5 production motor. EFI or carburated!

Here is my question about this and it's something I've always wondered about ever since I saw somebody trailering down the highway with a boat identical to mine but had a big V6 on the back but mine only has a 100hp 4 cylinder and a coast guard plate that says 120hp max. What is the downside to exceding the coast guard max hp rating? Liability? Insurance? Registration?

Re: My "new" motor

If you have insurance on your boat and you do something to get in an accident with another boat and your policy says that overpowering the boat will void your insurance then they will not cover you. As far as registration goes depending on the state of course, they usually don't care. Mine doesnt have the HP written anywhere on the cowling so I just don't know what the HP is :).

I make it a point not to go within 1/4 mile minimum of other boats . BIG river , few boats here.
