well here she is my first project boat. It needs alot of work as you can see, thankfully it was free. anything that was wood has water damage. Has been sittin outta the water for at least 5 years. the only thing that has been done so far is all of the old ugly red and black outdoor carpet has been removed. was wondering what would be the best plan for attack. tear up the flooring and start from there? looking forward to finally getting her in the water. any suggestions would be appreciated.
snyder,

Well, you've got a project. It looks to be an older Starcraft Cheiftain.

Here is what I would do:

1. Check the transom, is it solid? If not, let us know, we can help with the replacement.

2. Tear up the floor.

3. Seal the boat from the inside with Gluv It. It's available at www.westmarine.com.

4. Replace the floor and work up from there.

That is a fairly easy restoration compared to a glass boat. Everything is bolted to framing on alum boats so you should have a clean and easy replacement job on wood pieces. I would consider pressure treated wood and paint it if you can find a good grade. I helped a friend replace flooring and transom on an early 60s 16' Starcraft...piece of cake and we used pt wood. That was 7-8 yrs ago and it is still going strong. Those Starcrafts are pretty durable. I think you did good for free.

was wonderin if i can hammer back out the dents that are in the hull. boat is dinged up a little due to heavy use in the river. doesnt look like it would adversely affect the integrity of the hull at all.
