Hi,
I have a 2004 90hp 2 stroke Merc. I read on these forums that during flushing it's best to wait until the water coming from the pee hole warms up, once the thermostat opens. I've run at idle on the muffs for up to 15 minutes but the water from the pee hole is still the same temp as the water going into the intake. I've been out on the river plenty of times and no signs of overheating, is there potentially something wrong with the thermostat or is this normal ?
Cheers,
Darren.

DG_stacer:

I have the '03 version of your motor. Very happy with except its roughness below 1000rpm.

I've only muffed it once to confirm it starts before the first launch of the season. I only ran if for a minute or so. So I can't tell you about running it on the muffs.

On the water, I've had that puppy in 90 degree weather blasting at 5500 RPM for 5 minutes. Stopped, felt the pee stream. Hardly warmer (if at all) than the lake water.

I'm thinking of getting a temp guage just to monitor temps.

I don't think there is anything wrong. The motor does not run hot!

Any body else?

a temp. gauge is good but a water pressure gauge may be a better investment

Regarding the temp and water pressure gauges, is this something I can just wire into the motor? In other words does the motor have these cords just ending to nowhere?

The water pressure gauge includes the WP sending unit, but the temp gauge requires a G sender.

What is a G sender? Something that I replace on the motor or ?

Thanks steam_mill for your reply - this gives me some more confidence that this is just normal for this motor. No overheating warnings so I'll mention it at the first service and get them to check just in case.

Cheers,
Darren.

It is possible that your t-stat maybe stuck open or not operating properly, if thats not the case and your plugs are not fouling then i would'nt worry about it, just keep an eye on the tell-tale.
