My "Piece of Ship" needs your winch post advice

I want to order a winch post tonight while my wife is in a good mood, but I'm confused on what to buy.

I recently installed my bunk brackets and bunks. The brackets are temporarily on there (one bolt only) until I was sure about proper height and position, and so on and so on. This pram has a very curved bottom, and although she sits on the bunk boards fine, the boards only support her for a minimal length, so she has a kind of rocking horse groove if you've had a few beers and push on the bow or stern.

As presently configured, I have around 4" of clearance between the lowest part of the keel and the bed of the trailer, as shown below. (Yeah, one of the brackets is crooked in this photo, but as I said, this is temporary.) Here's the keel:

Here is my square bow, and dimensions to both the top of the "ship" and to midway to the bow hook. (Is that's what it's called? A bow hook?) And since I DID have a few beers, those measurements might be off a hair or two.

My questions are, I LIKE the 4" clearance because it gives me room to work on the bottom, but does that make my winch post choices ridiculous because of the measurements shown? Like, am I going to need a winch post HEIGHT of 28" to make this work, or a height of 21 1/2"?

So would an angled winch post with a LENGTH of 24" give me 21" of height? And is it logical to use the bow hook height, with an appropriate stop on the winch post?

All I really need is a straight winch post for this tiny 8-footer, not even angled, but I haven't seen any that make financial sense. So if you have any links, thanks.

And thanks all for listening and your advice!

You will need a post higher than your "bow eye" so you can mount a winch and bow stop on ..Bow stop mounts above the wench ..
Hope this helps ! SP..

The Bow Eye should be just below the Bow Stop.
This is what prevents the boat from ending up in your back seat in a panic stop!

It is not unusual for the Bow Stop to be higher than the Main winch post.
There is a reasonable amount of adjustment available.

But I haven't seen a single winch post for this kind of height that won't cost a fortune--100 bucks and more. Just for the POST, not even including the winch, which I know you normally buy separately.

Can you link me to that second image of a winch post with winch? Can I adjust that to the height I need?

Start your search HERE.

Turns out I ordered from them before I read your post. Ordered a basic 26.75" post for 28 bucks, though shipping is a killer at $19.

I hope the welding work on mine is better than the one they picture!!!

I don't know if the 26.75" with its angle will give me the height of 21" plus that I need to reach above and beyond the bow eye to mount everything, but worse comes to worse, I figure I can stick some lumber under the base to give me a few extra inches of height. (I didn't want to spend a lot for such a small boat, and once you go past 26.75", the prices go nuts.)

It's not like this little pram needs a complicated set-up...simple tie-downs would probably be enough with the winch just mounted right on the tongue...but for all-around ease, I wanted to do it semi-correctly. But here's the rub:

Based on the configuration of my bow, don't I need something flat to act as a bow stop, and not a roller-looking thingy?
