i recently decided after eight years to get back into boating. i called myself doing research to see which brand of boat i should buy, after narrowing it down between searay and chaparral i began looking. marine max in buford,ga. had an excellent salesman so i decided to do business with them. after the finance manager was extremly rude after i told them i would do my own financing i should had known better, but i really wanted the 205 sport that they had located. marine max said i had to pay for the boat in full before they would go get from another dealer. now i understand why, because we picked up the boat middle to end of july and on the way home we stopped by the lake only to get stranded on the lake because the boat quit running. keep in mind one of their selling points was that they had to take the boat out and test before i could take delivery, really don't know if they did or didn't. marine max picked up our boat august 5th, today is august 28th and we still have no boat. i did contact searay via email shortly after the running problem and also pointed out three other things that were wrong with the boat after further inspection, they sent me a canned letter saying that the dealer would get in contact and correct our problems, a month later they haven't even followed up to see if everything was corrected. yesterday they sent me a survey of which i checked everything unsatisfactory, of which they still have made no contact. long story short if i ever get this boat back i will be back out of boating and write the loss off as a bad experience.

Re: my sea ray experience

I have an older Sea Ray but today I just don't see the quality. If I were to go with a new boat these days I would be looking at Regal or Monterey and also Chaparral. The 4 WINNS also are looking pretty good these days. Sorry Sea Ray, you just don't have it anymore.

Re: my sea ray experience

update on my sea ray experience. yesterday 8/29/07 we received a call from the general manager of Marine Max in Buford,Ga. assuring us everything was repaired and we would have our boat back today 8/30/07 before noon. it is now 7:30 p.m. 8/30/07 and we have not seen a boat or received a call. if anyone is considering buying a sea ray i would think long and hard about other brands, this has to be the worst service on something brand new i have ever experienced.

Sorry to hear about your bad experience, I must have had your finance guy to, he was rude and I gave him the F*&% Y*# and got my credit union to finance the boat.
My boat was a broker boat and the deal was just what I wanted so I persued it. They finally fixed all the problems and delivered the boat about a week late but now I have a nice "vintage '96" with 41 plus hours on it. I laugh at the EX-General Manager every time I launch 'er. They let him go right after I did the deal, hmmmm, wonder if the email to Sea Ray had anything to do with that????

update 08/31/07
i received my boat back today. i had emailed sea ray with a list of problems i saw on the boat when i first had a problem. a representative emailed me back asking for the opportunity to work with the dealer and make sure my problems were resolved. congratulations sea ray it looks like the only thing they corrected in 26 days was the running problem, hopefully. i also now have a nice cut in one of my seat cushions that wasn't there. the driver who delivered the boat was a nervous wreck, because i was showing him all the problems.
you know when i sent in the bad survey the general manager of the dealer called wanting to know why i was still dissatisfied, he didn't even know they still had the boat, makes me wonder if anyone really cares about the product they sale. well enough ranting, i have just never bought anything for this kind of money and found such poor service.

I have to say it sounds like a dealer problem rather than a boat problem. Although I am not sure of the newer Searays. Mine is 35 yrs old and still gives me a lot of fun.

Hahaha... good one... Park a Sea Ray Sundancer next to a Four Winns Vista or Bayliner Ciera (any year) and use your eyes. Look at the materials, the wiring, switches, railings, hardware, window trim... etc. There's obvious differences. The problems sound like bad service. I'm sure Sea Ray wouldn't approve of their name being tarnished by an idiotic dealership!
The boats are solid.

Re: my sea ray experience

Im sorry your Sea Ray experienced sucked. I searched for 2 years while I was looking at getting back into boating. The Bayliner dealer sucked and he also sold the Fourwinns and didn't listen to me. The wife and I were looking at boats under 20' and under $30K, and within 5 minutes he had here on a $40K 20'+ Fourwinns.

I was releived when I contacted my local Sea Ray dealer. Treated us very nicely, was not pushy, and showed us exactly what we wanted to see and was very patient. Once financing was approved and price/add ons were discussed and purchase price finalized, he took me out for an hour ride on the lake to test drive before the final signing. This included a full run down of launching the boat, getting it back on the trailor, and the function of all options.

I think my boat is of great quality and so far has performed better than I had expected. All my friends have started to look at Sea Rays now.

I definately think this is a dealer issue and not a product issue. Just remember, anythign produced will have some products with bugs. The important thing is how the seller takes care of you when there is a problem. In your case, this dealer has failed miserably and I would tell everyone in your area about it and try to steer anyone away from them, but not the product.

Re: my sea ray experience

update, as i said i got my boat back friday, we took it out over the weekend. actually the boat ran very well and everything went smoothly. once we got to enjoy our boat we had a great time. there are some bugs still, cosmetic but i'll probably have to deal with them because i don't think i can handle anymore of the dealer.

Glad your situation is improving! It's frustrating I'm sure. You know what they say... if you want something done right...

Happy Boating

If its all warrany work, let it sit at his shop over the winter for the free fix. If he cant fix it by march report the manager to the SeaRay headquarters.

Glad you finally had a good time on it.:)
