He was at work last night in the mill he works at. He is also the first aid attendant.
As he was doing his thing he got a call over his radio "im "bad word" dieing. They had to look all over to find the guy. When thay found him his foot had been riped off in the conveyor belt and blood every where.
My son maneged to stop the bleeding and keep the guy alive on till the ambulance attendants got there. The guy was then medivacced to Vancouver. Wow im so proud of him. He kept his cool and did what he had to do and he did it.

Good deal. He was doing what he was trained to do and kept a cool head doing it.

SOunds like a very hazardous place to work. You son should be commended and recognized for his actions.

Tell him Great Job and the word of his good deeds is being spoken about.

Be proud Dad and be happy he was not hurt.

Congrats to your son.. You should be very proud of him.. I know its hard sometimes in bad situations. I know about 2 months after I graduated Nursing school, I was 20 yrs old, I came upon a car wreck.. I was the only person there willing to help, out of about 20 bystanders.. I jumped down about a 15 ft embankment saved a guys life... IIRC he had a punctured lung, broke neck and was bleeding from his mouth, and limbs. While I was down there he was going in and out shock.. It was life changing for me. I was still up in the air about being a nurse after I graduated. The family got in touch with me SOMEHOW, about 3 days post wreck and told me Thank you so much for saving our sons life.. It honestly is giving me chill bumps right now.. I WILL NEVER FORGET THAT MOMENT EVER IN MY LIFE.... I am now 23 and I wouldn't give up nursing for ANYTHING...

Awesome!! Been in similar situations, and you just gotta get it done. I have "rescued" two dead guys, CPR on both, but no hope :( . . . I saved a finger once, dug it out of an oil pump and it was reattached . . . I agree with ocb, these moments can be life changing.

Getting involved is what it is all about. A big Atta Boy to your son on a job well done. Like others that have said "Wish there were more out there"

Now where are you going to take him for lunch?

Not understating the heroism of your son, but lets say a prayer for that poor guy that lost his foot. I can't imagine the pain and agony he will have to go through for the rest of his life.

Re: My sons a HERO

Thanks for all of the great replies. I still have not talked with him yet as hes been in meetings with just about every one under the sun about what happened.
What i was told was the guy went across the conveyor belt with out shutting it down and locking it out. Just a dumb mistake that just about cost him his life.
Waterinthefuel think of it this way the wife and kids still have there father/husband.
SS i don't think lunch will due but i now think he and i will have to sit down and have a beer. "lunch with the beer would be a good thing to".
Thanks again for the great support and im going to direct him to this sight so he can see that people from all over appreciate when other people go out of there way for others. I think it will help with the processes of what happened.

My congrats on a job well done. Being able to think and act fast on your feet is a talent. Many firemen and policemen who go far in their departments have this talent also as well as EMT and ER doctors etc. Great JOB .

Re: My sons a HERO

Your son did a fine job. In addition to implementing his medical training well, he is to be commended for his ability to stay cool and stay focused on the task at hand. Having someone's life in your hands for the first time is a very frightening experience and not everyone can handle the situation well. Simply put, medical training is what gets you through the incident when you do have the ability to push the emotional uncertainty aside, but it is the person's inner strength that really allows that training to be put to work.

Bravo!
