Went halibut fishing this weekend got up at the crack of dawn Saturday morning, fished all day and we got skunked.Sunday morning rolled around and we were to tired to get out of bed till 9:30, got boat launched by 10:30 only to realize we left bait at home. Parked boat on unused portion of launch. Son stayed behind to watch boat while I ran home to get bait we finally headed out of launch by 11:15 motored out about 9 miles to a halibut hole. There was a few boats there but didnt look like they were catching anything.Rigged sons pole up and had him drop it to bottom while I manuvered boat so I could figure out the current and drift. Got my pole barely rigged up when WHAM!!! his pole doubles over.We hadnt been sitting more then 5 mins and he gets his fish ,I kinda wonder what the boat with the other guys were thinking when we just get there and catch a fish like we knew what we were doing. It was @25lb halibut 40 inches long.

we are going to go out again tomorrow and see if we cant do it again

He seems to be my fishing lucky charm he out fished everyone when we chartered a boat for salmon last fall. Must be becuase he dont smell and taste like old men.

Re: My sons first halibut

That is fantastic! It is one of those fish that will keep your son fishing forever.
